BYU football has come to terms with the University of Nevada, Reno on a three game series between the schools beginning in 2013. The first game is to be played on November 30 in Reno and was confirmed around 3:00 pm MT with a tweet from BYU athletics that read:

#BYU has finalized a 3-game football series w/Nevada that includes a 2013 game in Reno & 2 games at LaVell Edwards Stadium in 2014 & 2019.

The UNR game just about completes the Cougars schedule for 2013 which will be announced in its entirety tonight on a special edition of True Blue (8:30 pm ET/ 6:30 pm MT). Athletic director Tom Holmoe will reveal the schedule and Blaine Fowler will join the show to discuss the schedule and look at key matchups.

This week, most of the publicity surrounding Wolfpack football has had more to do with former quarterback Colin Kaepernick leading the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl than the current program which is on the rise.

In 2010 Nevada rolled through the Western Athletic Conference to a 13-1 record including a bowl win over Boston College. The following year Nevada went through a rebuilding phase and struggled to a 7-6 record in their final year as a member of the WAC.

Prior to last season the Wolfpack made the jump alongside Fresno State to the Mountain West Conference. Welcoming tougher competition, Nevada went 4-4 in the MWC and finished the year 7-6 overall. Last year’s bowl game was tough for the Wolfpack to swallow, they lost to Arizona 49-48.

During the 2012 season BYU and Nevada played three of the same teams. Both teams beat Hawaii handily and struggled to losses against Boise State. San Diego State beat the Wolfpack in Reno 39-38 and BYU’s bowl win came over SDSU 23-6.

The two team identities couldn’t have been more different last season. Nevada relied heavily on its offense to carry the team throughout the season and BYU leaned on its defense to win games. Nevada averaged 37.8 points per game and BYU held opponents to just two touchdowns an outing.

As more details become available about the series this article will be updated.
